2.3.6.1 released

Postby Matthijs » Wed Aug 25, 2010 12:14 pm

Hey folks,

I've just released the 2.3.6.1 firmware version for 2.0n. It fixes a few important bugs, see this blog post for the complete list of changes.

Have fun!

please include in next versions also transmission 2.04 and motion4fon.latest as official plugin. it's a waste of time at every upgrade to update other applications,
thanks

Tranmission 2.04 is already in SVN, but I'm not sure if we will be including motion4fon. It has been mentioned before, but it was not yet discussed (internally at FON nor with the plugin author).

I guess they're not asking to be put inside the firmware;
but to be added in the "plugins list" at downloads.fonosfera.org;

after 2 years of "fon-ng" that plugin list has only getten smaller (webcam/printer)... not something to brag about when seeing "app-stores" like android, ...

even "openwrt" has much more "luci" plugins available....
not to disclose even the 10.000 ported apps

The only "special" about fonera 2.0n & simpl is that it will not be supported by 3rd party firmware (ddwrt, openwrt, gargoyle, tomato, ...)
but I guess "sales" has dropped also a lot since they removed the fonera 2100 from the shop.

Currently the news about a new firmware release will give a short spike to sales...

and people then ask about "mediaserver SOON"... or the "repeater" function... stuff people can find these days in cheaper routers on the market

Yeah, I understood the intent. We should also really get more applications supported, I totally agree with that. However, I don't think this will happen for the next release, since I'd rather have a new stable release for 2.0g again a bit sooner than a release with more features / plugins later. Not sure when "sooner" is exactly, though...

"nightly builds" which contains hotfixes (to add to that stability) ? :-)

I believe 2.3.7 was going to be developped with both in mind...
the 2.3.6.1 was released to fix the family/friends & registration issues that came with 2.3.6 on the 2.0n
the 2.0g had not those issues

Yup, exactly what SkynetBBS said (though "2.0g had no issues" should probably be read as "2.g didn't have _those_ issues")
